Navy foils Sea Tiger attack The Navy yesterday thwarted a Sea Tiger attempt to sink a troopship carrying 1269 soldiers from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai. The ship 'The Pride of the South' was sailing off Point Pedro when it was attacked by a fleet of nearly 18 terrorist craft some of which were suicide boats. The Navy's escort of Dvora fast attack craft swung into action an engaged the enemy in a sea battle which lasted over two hours, beginning at 5.50 am yesterday. The Dvoras sank five terrorist boats including one suicide craft. Navy casualties according to official sources were 3 men killed in action and 39 injured. Thirty six personnel received minor injuries. They were being treated at the Palaly Hospital. The 'Pride of the South' was proceeding to Kankesanturai safely at the time of this edition going to press. |
