Lankan hotelier to address UFTAA World Congress

Anura Lokuhetti, Director-Operations of the Confifi Group of Hotels will leave Sri Lanka for Tunisia next month to address the 35th World Congress of the Universal Federation of Travel Agents Association (UFTAA) to be held from October 28 to November 1.

He will speak on "Providing Clients' Security in Tourist Destinations through Community Participation."

Around 800-1,000 leading travel, airline and hotel representatives from all over the world are expected to participate in the Congress.

UFTAA is the largest world body representing the travel industry and highly values the individual membership and support from a large number of individual Travel Agents, Tour Operators, Wholesalers and Travel partners including major airlines, hotels, tourist boards, shipping and cruise companies. It also represents 114 national associations and additional affiliate members in 121 countries.

Mr. Lokuhetti has been invited to address the UFTAA Congress at the right time to create a positive image on Sri Lanka's tourist industry, which has seen a sharp decline since the LTTE attack at Katunayake, tourism industry sources said.

Mr. Lokuhetti is also a member of the Ceylon Hotels School Graduate Association and the President of the Beruwela Hoteliers' Association. He has been in the tourist industry of Sri Lanka for the past 25 years and has contributed a number of features and articles on tourism to both Sinhala and English newspapers.
