Master plan to develop A’pura city

A master plan is under way to develop the Anuradhapura city. The city
development plan will be implemented by the Economic Development
Ministry in collaboration with Urban Development Authority, State
Engineering Corporation, Archaeological Department, Physical Planning
Department, North Central Provincial Council and Anuradhapura Government
Agent.
A discussion was held in this regard recently at the Battaramulla
Agrarian Services Auditorium chaired by Economic Development and
Agrarian Services Deputy Minister S M Chandrasena.
Deputy Minister Chandrasena told the Daily News that the Anuradhapura
prisons will be shifted to Oyamaduwa 2012 Deyata Kirula exhibition site.
About 200 acres was allocated to the Prisons Department.
C G R Employees Housing Scheme, 300 Official Quarters, Archaeological
Departmental Quarters, premises of State Timber Corporation, Textile
Industry Department, Provincial Engineer Office premises will be
utilized for city development activities having granted alternative land
facilities, Chandrasena said.
He said the Kumbichchankulama tank premises will be developed in to a
tourist attraction.
“Desilting will be executed to facilitate the arrival of sea-planes.
Rs 20,000 million has been estimated for the first phase of the plan,”
the Deputy Minister said. |
