Vajra means thunderbolt in Sanskrit. It is one of the yoga poses that
can be practiced while being seated. Feel the sensations of the body as
you do your movements while practicing this asana. There are many ways
in which this asana can be practiced. We have presented one way to you
before. This is another variant.
Step 1: Sit on the mat with your legs bent at the knees.
Spread them slightly apart and rest your buttocks on the mat. You soles
should face upwards and should be placed next to your buttocks. Place
your hands on either side of you body with your palms facing downwards
on the mat. Stay in this pose for five seconds.
Step 2 |
Step 2: Inhale and hold your breath. Exhale and bend your
elbows slightly while shifting your weight to the upper portion of your
body. Stay in this pose for about two seconds.
Step 3: Lie on your back on the mat. Spread your arms on
either side of your body. Inhale and exhale for about five seconds.
Step 4: Lift your spine slightly. Cross your arms over your
head so that you will be touching each elbow with the fingers of your
opposite hand.
Those who have performed the Sujatha Vajrasana need to follow it up
with the Balasana. This is important while performing asanas which bend
backwards. You perform the Balasana immediately after an asana which
required you to bend backwards to revive yourself from any stress which
might have been inflicted upon the spinal area while performing asanas
such as the Sujatha Vajrasana. Steps in which the Balasana is performed
will be presented next week.
