Cinnamon Nature Trails cleans up reservoirs

Last month, the Cinnamon Nature Trails Team, part of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts conducted a week long clean-up of the Hiriwaduna Reservoir found close to Cinnamon Lodge Habarana and Chaaya Village Habarana. The Cinnamon Nature Trails’ naturalists along with villagers from the community collaborated in a joint effort to clean-up the reservoir – which was being covered by the growth of water hyacinth.

The massive growth of this invasive species was inhibiting the lifestyle of the local villagers and preventing them from fishing, farming, accessing water and travelling across the reservoir. Following the removal of the overgrowth, members of the community have been able to access water with ease once again and are able to continue with their daily activities.
