New selectors eye 2015 World Cup

Former Sri Lanka captain and the newly elected Selection Committee
Chairman Sanath Jayasuriya flanked by his trusted contemporaries ,
Hashan Tillekeratne , Pramodya Wickremasinghe, Chaminda Mendis , Eric
Upashantha hoped to take Sri Lanka cricket to higher levels .
Sanath Jayasuriya a veteran of 110 Test matches and 444 ODI’s and
captained the country’s Test team from 1999 to 2003 said that with the
2015 World Cup not so far away said that he will nor hesitate to take
right decision to further develop the the game and honouredd the job
entrusted to him by the minister Of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
” With former Test cricketers who had represented the country for a
number of years it will be possible to launche an effective programe for
the betterment of the game in the country. With the next World Cup
approaching rapidly , the need is to groom young talented players who
could take up the challenge during the 2015 World Cup to be held in New
Zealand and Australia.” he said.
Jayasuriya who had been in the cricket field for over two decades
said that he will not be under pressure in his new position as Chairman
Selection Comittee as he had handled pressure situations on previous
occasions and sought the support of the rest of the Selection Committee
and media. Hashan Tillekeratne was delighted in accepting the post and
said he was waiting for an opportunity to give something back to the
game which he had played for a number of years.
