Restaurant owners fined for violating Food Act

Fines totaling Rs 112,500 were imposed on suspects found guilty in 18
cases filed in the Horana Magistrate Court by officers attached to the
Horana MoH area last week.
Owners of 10 restaurants and shops found guilty of selling food and
other items unfit for human consumption were fined Rs 88,500 while eight
suspects found guilty of having mosquito breeding places in their
compounds were fined Rs 44,000. A team led by PHI L I C Perera
prosecuted under the direction of Horana MoH Dr Indika Dharmaratna.
Meanwhile, two shop keepers found guilty of keeping prepared food
items for sale without keeping them properly covered from dust, flies
and other insects, were fined Rs 7,500 and Rs 15,000 by Bandaragama
Magistrate Mahinda Ranasionghe recently.
