Countrywide Divineguma Banks soon

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday promised to set up Divineguma micro finance banks throughout the country soon.

The prime objective in setting up these banks would be to uplift the lives of the poor and fulfill the economic needs of the country, he said.

The minister was speaking after attending the opening ceremony of the headquarters building of the Kelaniya Wedamulla Regional Development Bank beside the Colombo Kandy main road. Minister Rajapaksa said over 80

percent of the Samurdhi foundation had been invested in mega companies in the country before President Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power. The money earned by remote and rural communities were invested for the betterment of the country’s wealthy, he said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa changed this situation giving pride of place to the country’s poor. A proper mechanism will be implemented to empower the poor masses, the minister said.
