Training seminar on Green Chemistry
A training seminar on Green Chemistry will be conducted by the
Institute of Chemistry Ceylon at Rubber and Plastic Institute, in
Rajagiriya on January 4 from 8.30 a.m to 4 p.m.
Green chemistry, also called sustainable chemistry, explains how
industries and chemical laboratories should carry out chemical processes
in a profitable and environmental friendly manner that minimizes the use
and generation of hazardous substances. Experts from university and
industrial sector will cover the principles of Green Chemistry, Global
Warming and Climate Change, Energy from renewable sources, Biodegradable
polymers, Nanotechnology/ can it be Green? and Application of Green
Chemistry Practices in certain industries in Sri Lanka including Herbal
Product Industry. Green Chemistry is also a topic in the Advanced Level
(London) Chemistry curriculum.

Ceremony
A ceremony to mark National Early Childhood Protections and
Development Week organized in the NCP will be held at the Karachchi
Divisional Secretariat auditorium on December 18 at 12.30 p.m. Child
Development and Women's Affairs Minister Tissa Karaliyadda will be the
chief guest. The celebrations to mark the week which began on a national
level on December 14 will conclude with a special ceremony at the
Dehiwala Zoological Gardens on December 20 where 600 children would be
conducted on a tour of the gardens free.
Free psychiatric workshop
A free psychiatric workshop on planning for 2013 conducted by
Chandana Gunawardena will be held at the Colombo Public Library
Auditorium on December 22 from 8.30am to 3.30pm.
Participants will be trained on building and achieving life's targets
as well as family and corporate targets during the New Year. Contact

Dancing concert
Prabhashwara Ranga, a traditional and new dancing concert will be
held at the Bishop's College Auditorium on December 18 at 6.30pm
The concert will comprise traditional and new dancing items.
Magulbera Wadana, Pooja Narthana, Dewol Narthana, Pantheru Narthana,
Garaa Giri Narthana and Wes Narthana will be among the items included in
the concert.
Appeal
K V Muthuramalingam of No 18, Panaliya Road, Polgahawela has been
advised to undergo a bypass surgery to save his life. The operation will
cost Rs. 500,000.
He says he is unable to foot the bill and seeks public assistance to
