A seminar on enhancing profitability through innovative thinking
organized by Management and Science University of Colombo will be held
on January 12, 3 p.m. onwards at MSU auditorium, Duplication road
Colombo.
The students of the Management and Science University (MSU), Colombo
undergraduate program in hospitality and tourism management are required
as part of their study program to organize a seminar on a topic of their
choice. The above chosen topic “Enhancing Profitability through
innovative thinking” looks at how sustainable practices will form as a
differentiation factor among competition which in turn will give the
organization following these practices a competitive edge which can be
exploited in a competitive market place. “Good Stewardship is good
business.”
Sustainable tourism is also known as responsible tourism is based on
three pillars which are the environmental integrity, social imports and
economic development. The seminar will follow these three pillars of
sustainable tourism which would be discussed in depth by a panel of
distinguished speakers in the local hospitality and tourism fraternity.
The panel will compromise of Amal Nanayakara of Aitken Spence Hotels
who will speak on the social impacts of sustainability, Dr Suranga Silva
of the University of Colombo who will speak on the economic development
aspects and Dr Varuna Fernando who is a consultant in environmental
studies to address the gathering on the environmental integrity of the
topic.
The lecturers will be followed by a panel discussion where the
audience can ask questions from the panel.
