Horuth Ekka Boru (Thieves with Lies) is the first long stage drama
which Athula Jasinghe brings to Lumbini Theatre on November 23 at 6.30
pm.
Athula, who claims to have gained recognition in the short stage
plays, tries to impress the audience with the identity unique to him
through this drama which is based on a work of Italian dramatist Dario
Fo, the literati, the winner of Nobel laureate for his contribution to
drama and literature. The Sinhala translation is by W S Wijesinghe.
The Italian dram was named Nonci Paga - Nonci Paga, which was
translated into English as 'We Want Pay - We Can't Pay'.
Athula, who comes to your sweet home daily reading the newspapers to
you, is no stranger and has proved his mettle bringing an award winning
short stage play, 'Darkness', in 2011. He had convinced his abilility
which invites the audience to see the truth of the fact.
He has been an actor of stage plays for 18 years and has gathered a
wealth of experience both in acting and directing. If one recalls to
mind, one would remember how he played the role as Narada, a very mild
and sober widower and turned to be a willy-nilly lover, in the recently
concluded 'Doowaru' teledrama.
Athula comes to Colombo hailing from a very remote village in
Thambuththegama with the sole aim of becoming a stage drama actor. He
learnt in the hard way what it means to be an actor, to act on stage and
by acting with conscious of his role, he gave life to variety of
characters assign to him in respective stage plays.
In the present play Danushka Iroshani, Nalin Lusena, Prauda Buwaneka,
Nadeeshani Payliarchchi and Stefan Thirimanne make the stage drama live
with their living in characters assigned to them.
