Providing a decent home for all, govt’s aim - President
The government is committed to providing opportunities for people to
live in a decent home of their own in a clean and congenial environment
said President Mahinda Rajapaksa presiding over a ceremony to mark World
Habital Day at the Colombo Town Hall grounds yesterday.
The ceremony was organized by the Construction, Engineering Services
Housing and Common Amenities Ministry on the theme ‘Changing Cites,
Building opportunities.
The President said as we celebrated World Habitat Day it should be
our responsibility to provide a good house to each and every citizen by
planning better housing schemes.
He emphasised that a better environment was being created in Colombo
City and suburbs under the government’s on going development drive.
Everyone should make a dedicated effort to carry forward the
development process while protection the environment. On this day which
coincids with Universal Childrens Day, Elders Day and world Habitat Day,
it was the responsibility of one and all to build a congenial
environment for both children and elders to live in a decent home.
Construction, Engineering Services Housing and Common Amenities
Minister Wimal Weerawansa, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanne and
Ministry Secretary Wimalasiri Perera were also present on the occasion. |
