Schools under 19 T20 cricket tournament :

Trinitians win T20 crown

A quick and unbeaten knock of 49 runs, which came in just 34 deliveries, by Trinity’s opening batsman Janishka Premasinghe powered their way to grab the Schools under-19 Twenty20 title when they defeated St Peters’ College, Bambalapitiya by 12 runs according to the Duckworth and Lewis method in a rain affected final played at CCC grounds yesterday.

Chasing a target of 128 runs, set by Peterites who were all out in 17.2 overs, Trinity opener Janishka played an aggressive innings despite losing skipper Niroshan Dikwella for 4 and one down batsman Bhagya for no score.

Their total read 63 for 2 after nine overs when the rain stopped play. Janishka included four boundaries and two sixes in his innings. The Kandyan lads were needed to surpass 51 runs to gain victory according to Duckworth and Lewis method at the ninth over.

St Peters’ College batting first were bundled out for 127 after last year’s Trinity skipper Akila Jayasundara took 4 for 19, causing the main damage for Peterites. Janishka Fernando grabbed three wickets for 23 runs in his four overs including that of Peterite skipper Shehan Fernando who was dismissed for just eight runs.

Except for the 43 run partnership which came in for the second wicket between Shashen Fernando (30) and Lahiru Milantha (37) other Peterite batsman were dismissed for cheap scores.
