Wildlife Conservation Dept takes HSBC team on excursion
The Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) recently organized a
two day educational excursion for HSBC senior management and staff
members to Horton Plains as part of an ongoing partnership the bank has
held with the DWC.
This event conducted by DWC Community Outreach Division had several
senior members of both organizations attending, including Wildlife
Conservation Department Director General Dr Chandrawansa Pathiraja and
HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives Chief Executive Officer Nick Nicolaou.
Thirty five staff members participated.
The excursion included the panoramic landscapes of Thotupolakanda
mountain, World's End, Mini World's End, Chimney Pool and Baker's Falls.
Dr Chandrawansa Pathiraja appreciated the assistance given by HSBC
for the preservation of Horton Plains.
He also acknowledged HSBC's continued partnership with DWC.
Nicolaou said HSBC is happy to assist the Wildlife Conservation
Department in preserving these national parks. "The progress made thus
far has been remarkable," he said.
The bank provides nearly Rs 5 million annually to DWC for the Horton
Plains clean-up project in addition to clean-up projects of six major
national parks as part of the bank's corporate sustainability
initiatives to preserve the environment.
