Foreign Employment, Promotion, and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera, who
is on a five-day visit to Qatar to explore the possibility of getting
more jobs for Sri Lankans has received a positive response from the
Qatari business community.
The Minister, visiting on an invitation by the Qatari government,
held talks with Qatari entrepreneurs and their representatives on Monday
to explore the possibility of finding more employment opportunities for
Sri Lankans in the new projects to be announced in the coming months.
Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said the talks held to
promote foreign employment in the country were positive. A delegation
comprising senior officials from the Employment Promotion Ministry and
the SLBFE and Chief Executive Officers of recruitment agencies in Sri
Lanka accompanied the minister.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha has invited a large number of
companies and recruiting agencies to the meeting with the Sri Lankan
delegation.
Qatar is chosen as the venue to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and it
is anticipated that a large number of opportunities in the construction
services sector to become available.
The Sri Lankan delegation has held discussions on expertise Sri Lanka
has in the sector and the employment opportunities for Sri Lanka's
skilled workers.
The minister is also expected to visit Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia in
promoting more foreign employment opportunities. The minister is
scheduled to return on May 12.
