Foreign Employment, Promotion, and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera, who is on a five-day visit to Qatar to explore the possibility of getting more jobs for Sri Lankans has received a positive response from the Qatari business community.

The Minister, visiting on an invitation by the Qatari government, held talks with Qatari entrepreneurs and their representatives on Monday to explore the possibility of finding more employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in the new projects to be announced in the coming months.

Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said the talks held to promote foreign employment in the country were positive. A delegation comprising senior officials from the Employment Promotion Ministry and the SLBFE and Chief Executive Officers of recruitment agencies in Sri Lanka accompanied the minister.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha has invited a large number of companies and recruiting agencies to the meeting with the Sri Lankan delegation.

Qatar is chosen as the venue to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and it is anticipated that a large number of opportunities in the construction services sector to become available.

The Sri Lankan delegation has held discussions on expertise Sri Lanka has in the sector and the employment opportunities for Sri Lanka's skilled workers.

The minister is also expected to visit Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia in promoting more foreign employment opportunities. The minister is scheduled to return on May 12.
