Housing loan demand exceeds expected number

More than 40,000 applications have been received for housing loans during the first quarter of this year surpassing the expected number of 20,000, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa. The Minister was speaking at a housing loans distributing ceremony held at the Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat recently.

Rs 40 million worth loans were given for 263 families at the function. Minister Weerawansa said the people are interested in the government’s one million housing program and housing schemes under the programme are operative in the country.

The Minister who made it clear that the President had launched a development plan to ensure the speedy development of the country called for the people’s cooperation to strengthen the hands of the President to make Sri Lanka the Wonder of Asia.
