Aborigine sick of greener pastures

A member of the Dambana Adivasi Community Uruwarige Gunaratna (30) who migrated to Jordan four years ago seeking the Middle East Pot of Gold returned forlorn and empty handed yesterday.

Here, the young man with his relatives and friends

Speaking to the press at the Sahana Piyasa of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment at the Airport premises, Gunaratne said that despite his sojourn abroad he had not changed his community life style a wee bit. Evening Jordan he followed his own life style without being lured by the present day sophisticated lifestyle accustomed to people seeking foreign employment. Gunaratne said he came from Dambana to Katunayake at the age of 20 for employment in a Garment factory. After a six year experience as a garment worker, he went for employment in Jordan with the help of an employment Agency hoping to earn more.

The agency played him out and he was stranded in Jordan for four years until the SLBFE intervened to bring him back to the country.
