Cop killed in freak accident

A police constable was killed in a freak incident when he went to inquire into a complaint by a man that his wife was previously married.

Police constable Thilakasiri Dassanayake was in the way of a blow dealt with a pole by the complainant on his wife during an argument between the duo at the time the policeman was at the couple’s home to record the complaint in Hindagolla in Mawathagama.

The PC was rushed to the Mawathagama Hospital and later transferred to the Kurunegala Hospital where he succumbed.

Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told the Daily News that PC Dassanayake had gone to the house to inquire into a complaint made by the owner of the house stating that his wife had entered into polygamy.

The man knew his wife had entered into another marriage before she married him.

SP Jayakody further said that when PC Dassanayake went to inquire into the complaint, the accident occurred. Dassanayake is a father of two.
