Postal service more efficient now - PM
Sri Lanka’s postal service which has a history of more than two
centuries has now integrated with the new technological improvements and
is currently capable of providing a more efficient and reliable service
to the citizens. Also, postal service has a prominent role to play in
the concept of ‘global village’, Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said.
The Prime Minister made these remarks at the World Postal Day
celebrations held at the National Technical College, Moratuwa on October
9, 2010.
It is my understanding that under the Mahinda Chinthana program, the
postal service workers have more responsibility than ever before since
it integrates the village with the rest of the country when the whole
nation is advancing under the Mahinda Chintana program.
Our postal service has come forward passing many milestones. I am
extremely pleased about this development as I, myself have worked as a
Post Master,” he said.
Speaking on the current political situation the Prime Minister said
that the Opposition is clinging on to Sarath Fonseka as they have
nothing else to campaign about. “Fonseka was penalized by a Defence
Court established under paragraph 24 of the Constitution.
“There is nothing illegal about it. But the Opposition is trying to
gain cheap popularity among the masses by spreading a false view.
“Only President Mahinda Rajapaksa has the correct vision to uplift
the country and place it on a path of rapid development.
“The rate of economic growth has gone up to 8.5 percent and all the
sectors of the economy have experienced improvement,” the Premier said.
The World Postal Day celebration were also attended by Postal
Services and telecommunication Minister Jeewan Kumaratunga, Deputy
Minister Duminda Dissanayaka, Postal Service Head M K B Dissanayaka and
other senior officials of the Postal Department. |
