Wayamba, Western Provinces lead dengue breeding

The Wayamba and Western Provinces are having the largest number of potential dengue breeding places, according to surveys carried out by the Health Ministry investigation teams conducting the second dengue eradication week program.

Investigation teams conducting the second dengue eradication week program inspected 9,224 public places on the fourth day.

They detected 4,479 potential dengue mosquito breeding places and 1,404 places with dengue mosquito larvae.

The most dangerous spots among them were found in the Wayamba and Western Provinces, a Health Ministry press release said.

The release said Wayamba had 889 potential dengue breeding places and 312 places with dengue mosquito larvae while the Western Province had 573 potential dengue breeding places and 209 places with dengue mosquito larvae.

In Wayamba 115 persons were noticed to clear the mosquito breeding places.

The potential dengue breeding places and places with dengue mosquito larvae found in other provinces are as follows: Southern Province 462, 39 Uva: 424 & 161 Central Proivnce: 317, 76, NCP: 561, 159, Sabaragamuwa 566,316, Eastern Province 490, 112 Northern Province 107, 20.
