Ticketless travellers earn Railways Rs 663,360
The Railway Department’s Commercial Division has earned Rs 663,360
from 1,150 persons caught for ticketless travel in trains and travelling
with tickets in the wrong class upto October 1 this year.
This follows intensified raids conducted by investigation teams to
plug the immense revenue loss caused to Railways each year due to
ticketless travel.
Railways Commercial Superintendent Vijaya Samarasinghe said the
number of commuters caught for ticketless travel and the total fines
collected from them division wise are as follows. Colombo 681 passengers
- Rs. 379,075, Anuradhapura 252 – Rs. 141,525, Nawalapitiya 207 – Rs.
