Twenty three baby anacondas born to the green anaconda couple at the
Dehiwala Zoological Gardens Sunday have been placed in special cages for
public exhibition. Premasiri Pieris, an officer attached to the
Zoological gardens said this is the second time that the anacondas have
given birth after July 12, 2008.
Each baby anaconda is about two ft in length and 300 grams in weight.
Deputy Director Dhammika Malsinghe said the elder anaconda couple was
gifted to the Dehiwala Zoo by Czechoslovakia in 2003. A normal size
anaconda is about 30 ft but the parent anaconda couple at the zoo are
about 13 ft in length. |
