During the official visit of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Ukraine,
a meeting of the Ukraine-Sri Lanka Business Forum was held at the
auditorium of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine which was
also attended by the Ukrainian President, Victor Yanukovitch.
The inaugural session of the Forum was presided over by both the
Presidents and External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L.Peiris addressed the
plenary session of the Forum on the theme, ‘Favourable Economic
Situation to Enhance Mutual Economic Relationships’.
Prof. Peiris, who highlighted the friendly bilateral relations
between the two countries existing in the spheres of trade and economy,
mentioned the investment opportunities that have opened up in the
tourism, fisheries, agriculture, industry and infrastructure development
sectors specially in the Northern and the Eastern Provinces after the
suppression of terrorism.
Prof. Peiris also informed the assembled businessmen of the high
literacy rate in Sri Lanka and the outstanding quality of its human
resources.
He also pointed out the favourable geographical location of the
country, the free trade agreements that operate among Sri Lanka, India
and Pakistan and the unified investment facilitation mechanism in the
country as factors that would enhance and strengthen the economic
relations between the two countries. |
