‘Govt will achieve historic victory’

National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa MP told Parliament yesterday that the Government will achieve historic victory with two-thirds majority at the forthcoming General Election.

The victory will be used to draft a legal framework to establish political and economic stability and also to guarantee the democratic rights of the people.

Weerawansa said certain parties who are not patriotic and do not love the country are making allegations against the Government. The people of the country have lined up to give the biggest mandate to the Government at the General Election in the same way they elected President Mahinda Rajapaksa by a majority of 1.8 million votes.

Weerawansa speaking during the debate on the extension of the state of emergency said General Sarath Fonseka when he was the Head of the Trincomalee Military Camp took action to crush the JVP insurrection in 1988/89.

Weerawansa said several foreign forces and States including UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon are trying to raise war crimes charges against Sri Lanka based on the statements made by General Fonseka.
