In a bid to develop villages on par with the cities, this time, the
UPFA candidates’ list was filled with those who love the village truly
and understand the aspirations of villagers, said President Mahinda
Rajapaksa. He was addressing a meeting of UPFA working committee members
of Beliattha electorate yesterday. He said , “Therefore, rally around
them and let the village be developed.“
The President said he never directed his campaign with the aim of
gaining petty political advantage. All development schemes undertaken
during the last few years were aimed at developing the country and
targeting the future generation. For this, all people without any
divisions were behind me and showered their blessings, he added.
He noted that the village can be developed only after it was supplied
with basic needs.
The development process will be accelerated with the village being
the centre, he said.
“When people elected me as the President of the country in 2005,
expecting a unitary state, I dedicated my first three years to fulfill
this objective and make it a reality. The freedom achieved after
defeating the LTTE terrorism has been betrayed to the international
forces by certain unpatriotic elements. Now we have an opportunity, to
answer them at this General Election,” the President said.
