Asanka Devamithra Perera better known to many as "Asanka Aiya", is no stranger to the people anymore. He is talked about a lot among his fans as he is one the contestants for the latest Reality to show to hit the TV radar of Swarvahini, "Megastar", where people of all fields have been selected to sing and perform to ultimately clinch the Megastar title with the biggest cash prize yet to be awarded.

"Swarnavahini had called me, and explained to me about this show and with no hesitation I said yes to them", Asanka said when Daily News spoke to him. And I was surprised by the way I got the feedback from the audience, as I didnt expect such a support.

This is a very special acknowledgment to the media as we being the media, our task is to introduce the stars to the people of the country. But being on the same stage with them feels really different as all of us are treated in the same manner with no exception, he added.

"I don't take this as a challenge as everything depends on the votes of the fans", Asanka stated. I began the competition singing one of H.R. Jothipala's hit Sithum Pathum Sanda Adare with Tharushi. I am a big fan of C.T. Fernando as he was the man who introduced pop music to Sri Lanka and brought along a great beat.

Asanka has been influenced by music throughout his childhood as his father Manel Perera is a well known lyricist, a poet as well as a journalist. His grandfather Peter Perera is also a poet. Even in school he did music and he says now after getting an opportunity like this, he wants to continue in the music field while continuing his journalism career. He has worked at Lake House from 1992 to 2001 and then took a break and came back in 2006 and has been there since then writing for Sarasaaviya magazine.

Speaking about the judges, he said its a good choice of people they have chosen to judge. Minister Mervyn Silva and film actress cum political figure Rosy Senanayake have been placed as judges to give the opinion of what the audience would think while renowned musician Shirley Waijantha and Rajiv Sebastien have been put to give the views from the music side.

Megastar started on November 28, introducing 36 stars from various fields such as actors, politicians, sportsmen, media personalities and more. The stars are divided into six groups and at the end of each week one star is eliminated depending on the amount of votes the stars get which will take them to the final 12 and and then to the final one who will win .

There have been many people who have supported him very much with his competition namely Sarasaviya Editor Gamini Samarasinghe, Tennyson Edirisinghe, Chandu Liyanarachchi, Chathura Geethanath Bandara, Malan Karunaratne and Director of the Megastar program Buddhika Kulasekera.

Asanka will be performing this Saturday on Megastar so all you fans of Asanka out there, make sure you get your voting numbers right - MS 29 and send it to 7775
