Legends awakened

The melodious voices of legends who have left us and those who are still with have been brought to life with quality music inserted into the CDs. The collections will no doubt take the pride of the place on the CD racks of many music fans

Eight prominent figures who have contributed immensely to the music scene will reawaken their voices through a collection of CDs titled 'Legends'. The artistes in focus are Clarence Wijewardena, Milton Mallawarachchi, H.R. Jothipala,Gypsies, Annesley Malawana, Desmond de Silva and singing couple Rookantha and Chandralekha.

Four of Clarence's well loved CDs and a CD comprising his non-stop hits are available in the market. Wijewardena had made his mark as the pioneer of the use of electric guitar in Sinhala music. He revolutionized the local music scene in the 1960s with his melodious voice and is dubbed as the

father of Sri Lankan pop.

The CDs contain hits like Kanda Surinduni, Hiruge Lovedi, Gamen Liyumak Avilla, Andura Ira, Malata Bambaraku Se and Ran Dunuke Mala Se. All together it is around 68 songs with the non-stop CD.

Milton Mallawarachchi who had contributed a number of heartwarming songs to the local music scene can be heard once again through the 'Legends' category.

He is well known for his love songs and 81 of them will be revived through five CDs.

Prolific playback vocalist H.R. Jothipala's CDs will comprise Saman Mal Piyalle, Siriyame Sara, Geetha Rathriya, Ayubowan Thushara and a non-stop CD. Rookantha Gunatileke and Chandralekha Perera who held a live in concert event recently in Sri Lanka have 81 songs included in the five 'Legends' CDs. Ai, Gypsies gold, Singyore, Gypsies Platinum and non stop CDs will be included in the Gypsies - I don't know why CD.

Annesley Malawana's Golden Hits, Vana Bambaro, Top 20, annesley and Indrani, Thotiya and non stop songs will be a part of his latest 'Legends' CD.

Sri Lankan 'Baila King' Desmond de Silva will have some of the favourite songs sung by him for nearly four decades along with the non-stop songs.

Apart from the 'Legend' series, two three more CDs have made it to the market. Vikasitha Pas Pumi Vol 1 and 2 includes 84 songs and 81 songs by Pandit W.D. Amaradeva, Victor Ratnayake, Sunil Edirisinghe, Somathilaka Jayamaha, Edward Jayakody, Sanath Nandasiri, Sunil Edirisinghe and Amarasiri Peries. Chandimal: the unforgettable collection with music by Chandimal Fernando and his band will come in five CDs. All the CDs are launched by Torana.
