The Opening ceremony was a major success with participation of
Russian Ambassador Vladimir P. Mikahylov and Mrs. P. Mikahylov as the
chief guests. He commended effort of the young artists, admired and
observed their paintings and he mentioned Semage as a national resource,
who’s trying to promote Sri Lankan culture across the world through his
traditional paintings.
Mikahylov also mentioned that this is the time to strengthen the
cultural affairs between Sri Lanka and Russia for which the artists of
both countries can contribute more through the Cultural Centres of

The inauguration was coloured by famous local artists and
professionals. Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, Dr. Kulathilaka, Prof. Vinee
Vitharana, Sathischandra Edirisinghe and Ravindra Randeniya took part.
Prof. Vinee Vitharana said that it’s fortunate of Sri Lanka to have a
world famous artist like Semage and these seven young artists, Anne,
Ayona, Ruwani, Shanika, Hasanthi, Shanika and Sandun should be proud of
being his students. He appreciated the talent shown by the young artists
and their high standard of paintings.
The annual art exhibition has its own objective of promoting Sri
Lankan traditional art among the young artists in the country, and this
year’s organizing committee is happy to say they have done their best to
achieve it. |
