Moon Monkey and Madonna
Exhibition of mystery paintings at CRIPpLED CROW
CRIPpLED CROW is a Garden Path Centre for Contemplative Art and
Narration located in Negombo. In a society engaged in the transition
from war to peace, CRIPpLED CROW espouses a contemplative engagement
with the arts.
While there is a need for activism at such a time, it is also
important to nourish the inner life of the community, pouring balm on
wounds, nurturing people from all sectors of society in the difficult
task of transformation. At the CRIPpLED CROW Centre we call upon secret
resources of the soul to communicate with us in silence through image
and story.
The
images surprise, the stories advise and we become wise in ways we
weren’t before, awakening to remarkable possibilities for renewal in our
lives and our community.
The CRIPpLED CROW Centre opened a little more than a year ago, in
July 2007. It is modeled on a sister centre in Batticaloa, The Monkey’s
Tale, which has been instrumental in the production of this exhibition.
At present there are 73 students engaged in Mystery Painting and related
art forms at CRIPpLED CROW. They diligently record and report their
discoveries as the rising imagination of these times surfaces and comes
to light.
‘Moon Monkey and Madonna’, paintings from artists of the Garden path
will be held at the CRIPpLED CROW Centre from October 18 to November 2
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibition will open on October 18 at 10.30
a.m.

Ruwini Jayawardana
Talented actor, fight director and manager of the Ridamstar musical
group, Dhammika Pushpakumara took on a different path as he released a
music album, Aadara Kathandaraya, recently. Dharshana Kapuge, Helen
Atthanayake and Saddha Nanda thera penned the lyrics while Chaminda
Fonseka composed the tunes. Some of the songs are already hits with the
listeners of City FM, Max FM and the Commercial broadcasting service.
Two
of his numbers have been made into music videos and aired on
Swarnavahini’s Hada Randi Paya and Max TV.
Interestingly he had included several fight scenes in the visuals.
Dhammika hopes to add more fight scenes to his future music videos as
these provide him with the opportunity to display his fighting
techniques on a broader scale.
The old school boy of Dharmapala College, Wadduwa, had been more into
sports during his childhood. Karate and gymnastics had been his forte.
This talent took him on a journey to the reel as he took part in several
fight scenes before the camera.
He had taken part in around 100 films and 15 teledramas in his career
spanning over 14 years and had also been the fight director for 35 films
like Under World, Pissu Trible, Sanduni, Mihidum Vasanthaya, Jamis Bond,
Sudu Hansi and others. Audiences will be able to recall his performances
in tele creations like Wasuda, Kavya, Nilanjana and Akala Sandya and he
had also taken part in several German, American, Italian, Pakistani and
Indian productions as a stuntman. “My passion for music stems from
childhood.
Since I have ventured into the arts stream, I believe that I should
try my hand in all its spheres,” Dhammika expressed on his transition to
music.
He takes part in musical shows and hopes to tour Russia in January.
Currently engaged in portraying a lead role in a Russian film,
Dhammika wishes to produce his own action film on which he would take on
the lead role.
He hopes to proceed in his tuneful career adding many more tracks to

Wasantha’s paintings in Kandy
‘Sun
set’ and the ‘Tranquil mind’ two of Wasantha Kumara’s paintings are
being exhibited at Hotel Thilanka, Kandy.
The theme of The Sun set and the Tranquil Mind is based on the theme
of old age.
“Tranquillity of mind is depicted by the environment and human
figures. Old age is symbolised by the setting sun. If you take a close
look you will see shapes of wailing people,” Wasantha expressed. |
