President pledges to uphold TU rights
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday asserted
that his Government will never to suppress the democratic rights and
privileges of the working class. He was addressing the 'Presidential
Felicitation for Prestigious Service' ceremony at the Presidential
Secretariat yesterday, to felicitate veteran Trade Union Leaders in
recognition of their long standing and dignified service rendered to
the Trade Union movement of the country for over 50 years.

TMVP to release manifesto
Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal, contesting an
election for the first time, is due to release an election manifesto
this week to inform the public of their work programme. "We have
prepared an election manifesto that will be issued this week.
Through this we will inform our stance and how we will be governing
the Batticaloa district," TMVP media spokesman Asath Moulana told
the Daily News.
