Minister visits Uva Wellassa University
Higher Education Minister Prof. Wiswa Warnapala visited the Uva
Wellassa University accompanied by Health and Nutrition Minister Nimal
Siripala de Silva and Deputy Minister of Health and Nutrition Suresh
Vadivel on October 1.
University Chancellor Ven. Aluthwewa Soratha Nayaka Thera of the
Kataragama Kiriwehera graced the occasion during the ceremony.
Vice Chancellor Chandra Embuldeniya received the visitors and
conducted them through the inspection of construction activities and
presentation.
Since the university started construction on August 7, 2005 with the
laying of foundation stone by the President, the University has now
completed six buildings including the administration and academic staff
buildings.
Three buildings with lecture halls and laboratories, a canteen and
hostel facility, all of which cover a constructed floor area of over
100,000 square feet. Three other hostels are under construction.
The University had taken the second batch of students in July 2007.
420 students study at the university.
