Death of Weerasinghe de Silva

COLOMBO: The funeral of former Balapitiya MP and LSSP Central Committee member P. D. Weerasinghe de Silva will be held at the Jawatte Cemetery, Colombo 7 today at 4 pm. The funeral procession will leave his residence at 306, R. A. de Mel Mawatha, Colombo 3 at 3 p.m.

A nephew of late Dr. Colvin R. de Silva he was a brother of Telecom chairman and former MP Asoka Weerasinghe de Silva and brother-in-law of late MP Sarath Muthetuwegama.

Educated at Balapitiya Siddharta Maha Vidyalaya he was the first student to enter the University from his alma-mater.

During his tenure as Balapitiya MP from 1970 to 1977 he took a keen interest in developing school education in the Balapitiya electorate and rendered a great service to the people in the area by upgrading the Balapitiya hospital and setting up a fully equipped Divisional Secretariat in the area.
