Coach threatens to resign

Sri Lankan coach Sampath Perera has threatened to resign from his post after they crashed to their third straight defeat in the on going SAARC football championships.

The Lankans lost to Afghanistan 1-2 on Sunday having earlier gone down to Maldives and Pakistan respectively. Sampath Perera insisted that the selectors should include at least nine newcomers into the team if they are to make any progress in the coming tournaments.

The Sri Lankan coach further said that the experienced players did not perform upto the expectations and he will need to have a discussion with the selectors once he return home before making a final decision. Sampath Perera was appointed national coach in 2004 having served as the assistant coach for a long period.
