Equipped with all amenities on par with international standards for the discerning gem enthusiasts, the Gem Buying Centre will be opened next month, coinciding with the leading gem exhibition, the Facets Show.

"We have participated in the Facets Show for the past 14 years and we are one of the oldest exhibitors. We have launched this idea as a new business concept to facilitate buyers and sellers under one roof" Chairman/Managing Director, Wijaya Gems Pinsiri Wijeyapala said. The centre will also connect the supplier chain in and around the country.

The International Gem Buying Centre offers expertise in a range of industry related techniques, new technologies, necessary utensils, lab materials, a lapidary and capable craftsmen. Wijaya Gems who are the front-runners in taking this avant garde step ensures a vital service for the industry.

Wijayapala said the highlight of the International Gem Centre will be that the patrons can request a gem according to their specifications. "We are hundred percent equipped to re-cut gem stones according to the clients' expectations," he added, saying that they are able to meet any demand in any colour, any shape and calibrated or free size this is our speciality," he said.

Sri Lanka produces most of the world's quality sapphires, and its blue sapphires are considered to be among the finest in the world. Wijeyapala said the International Gem Buying Centre will be leveraging this strength to promote both Sri Lanka and the unique sapphires.

The International Gem Centre will be focusing mainly on clients who are coming into the country. "They are mainly from USA, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Thailand, and the Hong Kong,"he added.

The second phase of this project, located in Colombo 3, will have special suites on the rooftop to make the customers feel at home. "It is a high-rise building with a magnificent view where clients can enjoy accommodation, cuisine and entertainment," he said.
