Colourful
expressions of
'Images they captured'
It was a large gathering
yesterday at the Lionel Wendt Gallery to witness the colourful
expressions by many of the participants who took part in the
children's art competition organised by the Daily News. They came
from near and far to witness the joyous colours and the fine
compositions presented in form of pictures by their sons and
daughters. It was very touching to witness how parents were
encouraged to participate in events such as this which probably
was a result of their children deciding to take part not with the
sole intention of winning against others as much as finding an
opportunity to bring out their artistic talents.
They were young, happy and
carefree and the pictures they painted reflected their world,
unspoilt by malice, violence or hatred; these being the very
qualities they sometimes acquire as they brace for adulthood. But
art and expression of it in any form can cure a young mind of all
these impressions that can take permanent refuge in one's mind as
it matures. So yesterday amid a large gathering, the many young
artists who participated in the competition proved that art can
also cure polluted adult minds from being dragged into drabness
and disappointment. All it needs is to retreat into a child's
world at the Lionel Wendt Gallery as these pictures suggest.
The exhibition is open today as
well from 10 am to 6 pm.
