News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Party politics must not exist among Parliament employees: Speaker by Nadira Gunatilleke Party politics must not exist among Parliament employees, said Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara. Addressing a workshop on 'Positive Attitude and Constructive Skills Development' organised by the UNDP for Parliament employees, he said. Attitudes are very important because thoughts are built solely on attitudes. "It is mind, body and word which build character. When someone has wrong thoughts he speaks wrong words which leads to physical violence. This is happening in Parliament at present," the Speaker said. He said in the present day a person thinks one thing but says a totally different thing. "This is totally unacceptable. When you have to think one thing you have to say the same thing and do it," he said. Speaker said: "Language is the medium where we express our ideas. This is the difference between the man and the beast. Our resource is language. We can use it for both good and bad deeds like a sharp knife and use it to examine the depth of the human heart. Language is the base for philosophy. It is alright to being beaten up as people's representatives. But as people's representatives it is very dangerous to attack someone which will lead to endless battle. Party politics should not exist among Parliament employees. People's representatives should not practise a duel character. We should not let even a second go waste without doing something useful. We have to think positively. It is the secret behind my 27 year political life." Deputy General Secretary, Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayake, Assistant General Secretary, Parliament, Neil Parakrama Iddawela Serjeant-at-Arms Vijaya Palliyaguru and several others were present. Director, SIDA, T.M.K.B. Thennakoon and Management Consultant and the Head of Productivity and Qualititative Management Centre, SIDA, H.M.P.B. Herath were the resource persons. |
