Wesley Swimming Gala 2013, a success

The Wesley College has recently conducted their first ever swimming
gala organized by the 'Batch of 93'. The event was organize to promote
and encourage Wesleyites to swimming. It was yet another avenue for
budding Wesleyites to show and prove their multiple talents to the
world.

The chief guest was Richie Sappideen, an old boy who was the chairman
of the Swimming Pool project. The Principal Dr. Shanthi McLelland was
the guest of honour.
The event featured under 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 age
categories in free style, butter fly stroke, back stroke, breast stroke,
medley relay for juniors and seniors. There were around 2,000 boys
participated over two days of heats before the final event.
Overall Best Swimmer of the event was awarded to captain of the
Wesley Swimming Squad, Mario Gurusingha was awarded Overall Under 19
Champion while Thariq Bin Ubaid was picked as the Under 17 Overall
Champion.
The Under 15 overall championship went on to Shamod Athulathmudali
and Under 13 Champion was Aaqib Thahir. Murthaaz Abdul Barry emerged
Under 11 Champion and Under 9 Joint Championship awarded went on to
Wahid Hassen and Akif Ahamed.
Principal Dr. Shanthi McLelland, Coaches Asoka Serasingha and Edward
Vandendriesen, Teacher In Charge Shamali Perera, Old boys Mohan
Gurusingha, Rajah Sinnaduraiand, Sajeeka Abeynayake and Imran Thahir
distributed certificates to the winners.
