Seven students arrested

The Kandy Police Crimes Division yesterday arrested seven students from leading schools in Kandy on the charge of illegal entry and stealing valuable items from another popular Kandy school, while under the influence of liquor.

Police seized latest sports equipment and electronic items, including five cricket bats, 10 leather balls, rugby balls, footballs,

table tennis balls, digital timers and time tables from the possession of the students. Four students aged 16 and 17 were from the same school.

In addition to the store room, the sports room, prefects room, music room, library and canteen were also ransacked and valuables taken away. Police said the suspects had also stolen 30 awards and trophies belonging to the school. "The students had also destroying valuable documents, books and magazines belonging to the school, " Police said.

Kandy Police on the directives of Central Province DIG H.N.B. Abanwala are conducting further investigations.
