Lankan woman nabbed with fake passport in Sharjah
Sharjah Police arrested a 35-year-old Sri Lankan woman for allegedly
trying to depart from the country using a fake passport because she was
wanted by authorities for absconding from her sponsor.
The woman was arrested from a house along with a compatriot man who
allegedly helped her get the passport for Dh10,000, a few hours before
they were about to go to the airport.
The Criminal Investigation Department received a tip-off about the
woman’s plan to leave the country. Based on the information, the police
tracked down their location and arrested them and seized the fake
passport.
During interrogation, she told the police that her friend who was
arrested bought her the passport for Dh10,000 to get out of the country
as she knew the police records would show her absconder status.
The man confessed that he bought the fake passport from someone he
knows only by his first name and mobile number.
The police are making efforts to arrest the seller. The suspects have
been referred to the Public Prosecution.
