CTB records Rs. 7 m turnover

Sri Lanka's state owned passenger transport arm, Sri Lanka Transport
Board (SLTB), earned an additional income of Rs. 7 million on July 8,
the day a strike was launched by the Joint Trade Union Alliance (JTUA)
to cripple train operations. SLTB Chief Operation Superintendent H.M
Chandrasiri told the Daily News the Board deployed 300 additional buses
on Monday.
He said the SLTB's income on a normal day is around Rs. 53 million
and the day before yesterday it increased to Rs. 60million. The employee
attendance was also higher than on a normal day, he added.
"The number of buses which operated throughout the island yesterday
exceeded 4,700 whereas the regular fleet comprises only 4,400 buses. We
are grateful to all the SLTB employees who did not take part in this
strike," he said. |
