IESL Engineering Excellence Awards - 2013 launched

The Engineering Excellence Awards programme 2013 was inaugurated at a
press briefing held in Hotel Galadari on Tuesday.

Nominations and applications are being entertained up to July15, 2013
for the award categories: Eminence in Engineering Award, Excellence in
Engineering Awards for Individuals, Excellence in Engineering Awards for
Organizations, Engineering Entrepreneur Award, Award for Excellence in
Engineering Journalism, Young Chartered Engineer Awards, Chartered
Engineer Awards, social Responsibilities and Environment Award,
Engineering Heritage Award and Outstanding Engineering Education Award.
The awards presentation is scheduled to be held in September. The
gold sponsor of the event is Melwire Rolling (Pvt)Ltd, and the platinum
sponsor is ABB Global Marketing FZ LLC.
The Award for Excellence in Engineering Journalism would be presented
to a journalist, presenter, director, producer or a media personality in
any other capacity for the outstanding reporting, production
inprint,electronic media to further public understanding and promotion
of engineering.
Dusyantha Rupasinha, General Manager, Sri Lanka and Maldives ABB
Global Marketing FZ LLC SL Liasion Office said as a global leader in
power engineering and been in Sri Lanka for 60 years, saw this as a very
good opportunity to recognize the engineering fraternity as individuals
a well as organizations in the business.
"We have been associated with IESL in their centenary in 2006 and now
are happy to be involved in this endeavour to recognize engineers." He
said ABB was a global power engineering giant with over 100 years of
experience with two companies from Germany and Sweden joining hands to
form it in 1989 and both companies have a heritage of over hundred
years.

Over 1,500 employees were employed in their Ekala factory. For the
fist time in Sri Lanka, they have started to manufacture 5.5 and 6
milimetre coil and as a result, a colossal amount of foreign currency
