Hand grenades defused

Kahatagasdigiliya Police acting on information received on 119 on Tuesday, found two grenades entangled in a fishing net while fishing in Bathalawea in Upuldeniya.

Kebithigollewa STF officers defused the two grenades. Investigations are continuing.

Man shot dead

Giribawa Police are investigating the death of a man found shot dead in Warawewa, Hettiarachchigama in Bogahawewa.

The deceased was identified as H. M. Nihal Samaraweera, 38, of the same area. Police believe he had been shot around 9 pm on Tuesday.

Suspect held with explosive powder

Inginiyagala Police acting on information received on Tuesday, arrested a suspect for illegally possessing 110 grammes of explosive powder at Paragahakele junction.

He was produced before the Ampara Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Motorcyclist dies in crash

A motorcyclist who was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a tipper truck at Samanabedda Bridge in Hanwella died at the Colombo National Hospital.

Dompe Police arrested the driver of the tipper truck.

Cycle thief arrested

A suspect wanted in connection with thefts of motorcycles and push cycles, was arrested with the loot by the Kalutara division Crime Investigation Unit. Three motorcycles and three push cycles the suspect had stolen in Aluthgama and Matugama, were also seized. He was produced before the Kalutara Magistrate by Aluthgama Police yesterday.

Three held for felling sandalwood trees

Badulla Police arrested three suspects who had illegally felled white sandalwood trees in Bandarawela and Badulla. The Police seized 33 kilos of white sandalwood and tools used by the suspects. They were produced before the Badulla Magistrate's Court yesterday.
