Pakistani Chief of Army Staff here today

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is due to undertake a three day visit to Sri Lanka commencing today. This will be his second visit as he visited Sri Lanka in January 2011. During his stay in Sri Lanka, General Kayani will meet the top military leadership of the country.

He will also hold discussions with Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. General Kayani will review the Passing out Parade at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa today as Chief Guest. A get-together of Pakistan Staff College and National Defence University’s qualified officers is also being arranged. General Kayani is Pakistan’s 14th Army Chief. He was commissioned to the Infantry Battalion on August 29, 1971 and joined the Baloch Regiment. He has been holding the appointment of the Chief of Army Staff since November 2007.
