Who is this Sri Lankan opener
Richard Dwight
The question on the lips of many a cricket enthusiast has been, who
is this miserable opening batsman that kept on failing in all the four
matches played by Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy matches in England.
He made failure an habit and, his exit was far more quicker than his
entry to the wicket. All this did have a demoralizing effect on his
partner, Dilshan, and the whole team as well - which begged the question
as to why they kept on persisting with him for his aggregate 14 runs in
all 4 matches.
That which was even worse, was that the world acclaimed stylish
batsman sanga had to as one drop batsmen perform the role of opener.
Spoken by as the greatest batsman by many a foreigner he did belie
the trust reposed in him and lived upto his reputation by having score
of 68, 138 and yet others. Our youngsters need to play 6 to 8
international matches, not the T20 matches, in order to become
acquainted with the environment and atmosphere of Test Cricket and even
50 over matches.
Let's leave the T20 matches to those who are interested in money bags
and not cricket year. If we do go on like this cricket will lose its
glamour here.
