Chamil amd Chalani bag President’s Cup titles

Chamil Cooray and Chalani Lakmali won the men’s and women’s singles titles in the 14th President’s Cup carrom championship concluded at the Maharagama Carrom Federation headquarters recently.

Chamil defeated present world singles champion Nishantha Fernando in an exciting final where he recovered from an early setback as the World Champion won the first set without much trouble. Chamil who is also a many times former national champion used his experience and skills accurately to overcome Nishantha in the following two sets and clinched the title (15/25, 25/17,25/22). Chalani Lakmali who has shown a great improvement in recent times beat experienced Joseph Roshita (25/24,25/10) in their final quest for the women’s singles title. Viraj Fernando and Yashika Rahubaddha won the third places respectively in men’s and women’s singles. Manuka Ashen and Mohames Shaheed won the men’s doubles championship beating Nishantha Fernando with Lahiru Eshan in a straight-set final (25/21, 25/18) while the women’s doubles title went on to Joseph Roshita and Madushika Kanchanamala who tamed Chalani Lakmali with Arosha Wickramasinghe in the final (25/05, 25/11).

Men’s singles :

1st and 2nd Places - Chamil Cooray beat Nishantha Fernando - 15/25, 25/17, 25/22
3rd and 4th Places - Viraj Fernando beat Manuka Ashaen - 25/ 15, 25/23
5th & 6th Places - Prameda Mendis beat M . Sheriffdeen- 12/25, 25/06, 25/11
7th & 8th Places - MTM Hilmy beat Mohamed Shaheed - 10/19, 22/17, 19/16

Women’s singles :

1st & 2nd Places - Chalani Lakmali beat Joseph Roshita - 25/24, 25/10
3rd & 4th Places - Yasika Rahubddha beat Madushika Kanchanamala - 25/04, 20/19
5th & 6th Places - Arosha Wickramasinghe beat Joseph Dilka - 25/nil, 25/16
7th & 8th Places- Lihini Angelika beat Neranji Ayomali - 12/20, 23/12, 20/01

Men’s doubles final :

Manuka Ashen / Mohames Shaheed beat DN Fernando / Lahiru Eshan - 25/21, 25/18

Women’s doubles final :

Joseph Roshita / Madushika Kanchanamala beat Chalani Lakmali / Arosha Wickramasinghe -25/05, 25/11
