Bus crew begs pardon in court to woman they attempted to rape

A driver and conductor who allegedly tried to rape a woman inside their bus, begged pardoned from the victim in open court in the traditional Sinhala custom.

The magistrate also ordered them to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation to the woman.

The driver and conductor are residents of Polonnaruwa and Minneriya. The woman, an employee at the Polonnaruwa hospital, had come to Colombo in the suspects’ Polonnaruwa-Colombo bus.

The bus crew had attempted to rape the woman in the bus while in Colombo. The woman had fled the bus and complained to the Police. The suspects owned up to their misdeed before court.
