President to open archway, shrine room
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will open the new archway (wahalkada),
new shrine room (Budu Medura), new Bodhi Prakaraya and the new road
network at Kotte Madiwela Liyamporuwa Gangathilaka Viharaya today.
Pinkamas are organised under the aegis of Gangathilaka Viharaya
Incumbent Ven Aluthnuwara Sumanatissa Nayaka Thera with the support of
Defence and Urban Development Ministry, Army Buddhist Association, Navy,
Air Force, Police and the Dayaka Sabha.
Pirith chanting was organised on June 18 and yesterday with Bodhi
poojas, mal poojas and gilan pasa poojas followed by an alms giving to
100 Buddhist monks.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, ministers, deputy ministers,
parliamentarians, officials and a large gathering of devotees will
attend.
OOTB visit
Fourteen members of Out Of The Blue (OOTB) organization based in UK
will visit Sri Lanka from June 25 to July 4.
The organization is affiliated to the Oxford University.
The group intends to train students and conduct workshops.
The Rotary Club of Wembly (UK) of Rotary District 1130 and Rotary
Club of Kurunegala are sponsoring the visit and the OOTB will perform on
June 28 at Maliyadeva College as the College celebrates its 125th
anniversary this year.
Workshops and performances will also be held in Jaffna, Moratuwa and
Kandy.
Book launch
Sadaham Maga, the monthly Buddhist publication will be launched on
Poson Poya Day at 10 am at the President's house, Anuradhapura.
The first copy will be presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Sadaham Maga editorial adviser Ven Yatigala Pagnasara thera, Ven
Dapane Sumanawansa, chief editor Ven Urugamuwe Assaji thera, assistant
editor Ven Hakmana Nandaloka thera, Prime Minister's coordinating
secretary Amila Sudesh Jayasinghe and Dr Samadhi Rajapaksa will
participate.
Poson Zone
The Poson Zone covering 10 kms along Siri Perakumba Temple at
Lunugama will be held on June 23 to 27.
It is organised for the 8th consecutive year under the directions of
the temple's chief incumbent Ven Sumanarathana Nayaka Thera.
Pandals, danselas, lanterns, bakthi gee recital, drama, dance and
other activities will be held.
Service
The service Prayer, Praise, Teaching and Healing will be held today
at 5.30 pm at St Paul's Church, Milagiriya.
Anointed prayer, counsel and ministry will be made available for
those in need at the conclusion of the service.
OBA get-together
The second get-together of the Makola Muslim Orphanage OBA will be
held on June 23 from 9 am to 4 pm at Maligawatta Manzil Hall, Colombo
10.
Scholarship examination
Horizon City Campus will offer 100 scholarships for the University of
London degree programme. The scholarship examination will be held on
June 30 at the Horizon City Campus. Students who wish to read for a
LL.B. or Bsc. degree for the academic year 2013/14 can sit for the
examination. |
