Work on Code of Media Ethics begins

The Mass Media and Information Ministry has begun the preliminary work on preparing a Code of Media Ethics with the concurrence of all stakeholders to realise the aim of establishing a more ethical and advanced media culture as envisioned in the "Mahinda Chinthana" programme.

As an initial step a draft prepared using details in the code of media ethics adopted by local media, professional organisations and related international experiences has been published in the Ministry's official website www.media.gov.lk.

As the intention is to draw a Code of Ethics for Journalists, after meticulously studying all proposals and views received from those keen in this regard representing every section of society, the ministry invites the public to send in their views, a communique issued by the ministry said.
