Poson Week from today to June 26

The Poson Week commences in Anuradhapura and Mihintale today under the theme ‘Let us follow in the footsteps of Arahat Mahinda Thera’ and will conclude on June 26. A sathi pirith pinkama will commence at the Mahamewna Uyana tonight after a pan perahera conveying sample water from reservoirs. The pan perahera will arrive at the venue after starting off from the Isurumuni Rajamaha Viharaya at 3 pm.

The Sutta Desana will be held on June 26 and the Dorakada Asna recital will be held on June 27 after which Poson festivities will conclude with a Sanghika Dana to bhikkhus on June 28 forenoon.The Poson Festivities Committee has finalised all arrangements to cater to the convenience of Poson pilgrims visiting Anuradhapura, Mihintale and the Atamasthane.

Thirteen schools in Anuradhapura, Mihintale and Tantirimale will be closed from today to June 25 to accommodate Police and Security Forces’ personnel deployed to provide security during the Poson Week.All liquor bars and outlets and meat stalls in the Anuradhapura district will be closed during the Poson Week.
