STF raids saw mill

The STF officers attached to Buttala camp on Thursday raided an illegal saw mill and arrested two suspects with 33 logs of illegally felled teak and a tractor in Uva Kudagama in Wellawaya. Handapanagala forest office continue further investigations.

Police seek public help to identify body

The Hanwella Police seek public assistance to identify the body of a man with his neck silted in a bush near Dasawella road in Hanwella on Friday. The man appears to be around 45-years-old.

The Avissawella magistrate conducted the magisterial inquest while forensic officers have been called in by the judicial medical officers of Avissawella. Further investigations continue.

Woman electrocuted

An elderly woman died when she was electrocuted at Udumaththa in Eheliyagoda on Saturday. P. Premawathi of Beruwana died in the incident. Police reported that the deceased had accidentally stepped on an electric wire that was on the ground when a tree collapsed on the power line. The Eheliyagoda Police continue investigations.

Youth drowned

A 21 year old youth drowned in a swimming pool in a hotel in Nainamadama while bathing. K Prasanna Lakmal of Kelaniya faced the mishap while he was on a trip organized by the firm he was working for. The body was sent to Marawila hospital morgue after initial investigations carried out by the Wennappuwa Police.

Suspect arrested

The Mount Lavinia Police on the same day arrested a suspect who had sold three vehicles he had rented out from a car renting services in Kurunegala, Panadura and Colombo. Police seized two cars and a lorry he had illegal sold. He was produced in Mount Lavinia Police yesterday.

Man, Women remanded for treasure diggling

Three suspect including two women have been remanded until today by the Hatton magistrate when they were produced before court after having taken into custody by the Wewaltalawa Police while the suspects were digging a land in Ginigathhena with the intention of finding artifacts. Tools and offerings the suspects used in the illegal act had been also seized by the Police.
